I. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
HARDWARE: LightSail is compatible with Nexus 7 tablets, models 2013 and newer, and the Nexus 9 tablet.
OPERATING SYSTEM: LightSail requires Android OS version 5 (“Lollipop”) or newer.
NETWORK: To achieve the most desirable book download speed, we recommend an Internet connection of 15Mbps or faster. During setup, a technical manager will assist the school’s tech contact in testing whether content can be downloaded successfully over school Wi-Fi. Modifications to school or district firewall or filtering software may be necessary.
II. SETUP AND MANAGEMENT
A Google Account is required to install LightSail for Android from the Google Play Store. You may also distribute LightSail via your Mobile Device Management (MDM) solution or Google Admin Console. Please reach out to your central tech administrator for assistance.
If you are unable to access the Google Play Store please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for alternate installation methods.
III. BEST PRACTICES
- Label, number, and assign devices to specific students. Not only does this encourage accountability regarding the care and condition of the devices, it simplifies the tracking and troubleshooting of technical issues.
