We wanted to notify you of a potential conflict between your Mobile Device Management (MDM) system and the newest iOS release of LightSail (v220.127.116.11). If you are not familiar with managing your .pac file or your MDM settings, please forward this email to either your district technology team or your MDM support representative.
As of January 2017, Apple requires that all applications connect to web services over a secure connection (HTTPS). While LightSail has updated its hosts and ports to use secure connections where necessary, some schools have reported LightSail's Offline Mode appearing on iPads even when connected to WiFi. If you have received reports like this from your LightSail users, please note the following:
- If you use a .pac file to deploy proxy settings, please ensure that the .pac file is distributed via a secure (HTTPS) URL and make sure that all addresses included in the file are listed as a secure (HTTPS) URL.
- If you use another method to deploy your proxy settings, please ensure that they are being distributed via a secure (HTTPS) URL.
- Lastly, please ensure that your Global Proxy PAC file server is compatible with App Transport Security (ATS) and change your URL to the PAC file to HTTPS. Please note that for HTTPS to work properly, the web server hosting the PAC file needs to have a valid SSL certificate bound to HTTPS on that server.
